![]() And back to Zelda, with Breath of the Wild we actually got 30 hearts for the first time. This reminds me how Nintendo struggled to reach 120 Shine Sprites in Super Mario Sunshine just because Super Mario 64 had that amount, and Sunshine couldn't be worse than SM64 in this regard right? So they put in those tedious blue coins to achieve that. And it was obvious that the Zeldateam made a push to reach those 20 hearts in the end considering that you started with 6 hearts, and that there were like 3 Heart Medallions which basically worked as Heart Containers. Then A Link to the Past came and added 4 hearts, so 20 hearts became the new standard all the way to Skyward Sword. We started with 16 hearts in the very first Zelda title on the NES. Yes there are two exceptions I know, but they are so different in nature that I don't count them: Adventure of Link and Four Swords Adventures. Never has Nintendo "regressed" on the amounts of hearts in the "stationary Zelda-titles".
